Although the spring break high is starting to wear off, the good old reliable Cleveland sun has finally kicked into action! This spring break, we had a variety of travelers–whether it be to colleges, other states, different countries, or even your couch!

This spring, we had the first out-of-the-country Global Scholars trips since before Covid. And boy did they live up to the hype! Out of the 29 people who took the survey, 7 people responded that they went to a Global Scholars destination (Italy, South Korea, or Spain).

Here is what they had to say about their out of this world (country?) experiences:

Spring Break!

Although the spring break high is starting wear off, the good old reliable Cleveland sun has finally kicked into action!

Italy

  • I loved that we got to see the bustling city of Rome and also the quiet countryside of Sant Angelo. Italy was an amazing learning experience!
  • I went to Italy with HB this year for Spring Break and absolutely loved it. We traveled all around Rome and Sant Angelo (which is the countryside of Italy). Seeing the sights of Ancient Rome and Vatican City were probably my favorite parts of Rome. In the countryside, I often sat in the hills and read my book or painted with watercolor. The food was also a highlight of the trip. We had pasta and pizza everyday. My favorite type of pasta was carbonara, which is a spaghetti type pasta with an egg based sauce and bacon. In Rome, we had gelato every night and my go to flavors were Nocciola (hazelnut) and ricotta!
  • The views of famous Roman ruins and just the beautiful, colorful, old style yet very well kept buildings in Rome in Rome and the bucolic mountainous and very rural/quiet Sant Angelo views.

Spain

  • Spain was so much fun…. the food was AMAZING and I truly was able to bond with all of my HB sisters throughout the trip. It’s hard to choose a favorite day, but I think the best day would be when we went to an Olive farm in a village called Calaceite.
  • I really enjoyed being immersed in the Spanish language and culture and eating lots of new foods. It was a really great experience with a great group of people.

South Korea

  • It was truly the experience of a lifetime. My favorite part was going to seven eleven multiple multiple times for Korean snacks!!! (Like the Korean convenience store tiktoks)

We also had many people head to other international destinations, including:

  • Dubai, India
  • London, UK
  • Cancun, Mexico

Many others visited various states and cities in the US. Our most popular trips included:

  • Florida
  • The Carolinas
  • California
  • New York City
  • College Visits (various places)

Some of our best rated destinations included:

  • San Francisco
    • “My favorite part of my vacation was seeing the city and spending time with my family. the best meal i had was at a thai restaurant for dinner. I didn’t watch any movies but the best day i had was when i drove up the coast with my family and had fun at the beach.”
  • Florida
    • “My grandma bundling up for the sunset and walking around all cozied up” -Anna Maria Island, FL
    • “We went to the pool and went to the beach and had lots of great food like shrimp. we also had a day when we went to my great grandma’s new assisted living home and saw her room. We had a great conversation.”
  • South Carolina
    • “I ate a lot of good food and relaxed by the beach most of the time. I also got to spend some time with my parents!!” – Hilton Head Island, SC
    • “I had an amazing time visiting my aunt in South Carolina, along with visiting colleges in Virginia and DC and where I used to live as a baby in North Carolina. My highlight was when we went to my old neighborhood, I was able to pick out the house and I met the man who lives there now! The drive was also so beautiful and it was really cool watching the landscape change.”

A good amount of people also spent time relaxing at home! We had a variety of activities done, from watching Netflix in bed…to watching Netflix on the couch (at least according to the google form, I’m sure there were many more activities done besides Netflix). Such as enjoying the wonderful, positively balmy March air, reading books, baking new recipes, and spending time with friends and family. But nothing does beat the good old couch, with one respondent saying, the, “couch was nice, home was comfy, tons of free time, not much to do though”. Well, free time is in short stock, especially with AP and finals season coming on, so we’re all glad you were able to enjoy some during break!

I hope everyone had a fantastic break! Here’s to making it through the rest of the school year so we can get an even longer one, filled with even more amazing experiences, family time, and life-changing adventures!
