On November 15, the Grammy nominations were announced. They will be held on Sunday, February 5, 2023, and so far, there have been many thoughts on the nominees. Here are my thoughts on who I think will win versus who I want to win in the categories Best New Artist, Song of the Year, and Album of the Year.

The nominees for Best New Artist are Anitta, Omar Apollo, DOMi & JD Beck, Muni Long, Samara Joy, Latto, Måneskin, Tobe Nwigwe, Molly Tuttle, and Wet Leg. The winner of this award last year was Olivia Rodrigo. Considering her and other previous winners of this award, I predict that Latto and Måneskin have a good chance at winning. I think that Latto has a bit of a bigger chance because her hit song “Big Energy” is more recent than Måneskin’s hit song “Begging.” Personally, I would be most happy if Omar Apollo or DOMi & JD Beck won. I am especially leaning towards Omar Apollo because I really love his songs. If you haven’t heard his songs before, my recommendation for a song of his to listen to is “Useless.”

The nominees for Song of the Year are “Abcdefu”- GAYLE, “About Damn Time”- Lizzo, “All Too Well (10 Minute Version)”- Taylor Swift, “As It Was”- Harry Styles, “Bad Habit”- Steve Lacy, “BREAK MY SOUL”- Beyoncé, “Easy On Me”- Adele, “GOD DID”- DJ Khaled, and “The Heart Part 5”- Kendrick Lamar. The winner of this award last year was Silk Sonic’s “Leave the Door Open.” I think that it is hard to predict a winner in this category, but I think that “As It Was” by Harry Styles or “Bad Habit” by Steve Lacy both have a good chance of winning due to their popularity. I am personally rooting for Break My Soul since it is a great song and I like Beyoncé. I also would be fine with Bad Habit winning because I am a fan of Steve Lacy, however I don’t think that Bad Habit was the best song on his album, especially compared to the other songs.  The nominees for Album of the Year are Voyage– ABBA, 30– Adele, Un Verano Sin Ti– Bad Bunny, RENAISSANCE– Beyoncé, Good Morning Gorgeous (Deluxe)- Mary J. Blige, In These Silent Days– Brandi Carlile, Music of the Spheres– Coldplay, Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers– Kendrick Lamar, Special– Lizzo, Harry’s House– Harry Styles. The winner of the award last year was We Are by Jon Batiste. I think that Harry’s House might win this category because of its popularity, even though I am not a big fan myself. However, last year’s winner was not an extremely popular album, so there is a chance that someone else could win as well. Although I have not listened to all of these albums, I am rooting for either Renaissance or Mr. Morale & The Big Steppers because I think that both of these albums and artists are amazing.
