Many people have very strong opinions about what the best Halloween candy is. Some people are die-heart Reese’s fans, while others prefer sour candy, such as Sour Patch Kids. I decided to settle the Great Halloween Candy Debate once and for all by polling students and faculty at HB. Would Reese’s live up to the hype, or is another candy deserving of the #1 spot?

Is chocolate more popular than sour candy? Do HB students and faculty prefer Reese’s or Twix? Do people love or hate candy corn? What are the weirdest items students and faculty received when they trick-or-treated when they were little? These are just some of the questions I sought answers to.

HB students and faculty didn’t disappoint!

The results were pretty close between Reese’s and Twix, but Twix ultimately emerged victorious! I can’t say I’m surprised as Reese’s and Twix are my favorites!

HB’s least favorite Halloween candy is Butterfingers, with Swedish Fish as a close second. I was shocked to learn that Swedish Fish are the second least favorite Halloween candy in the upper school community! I always thought that Swedish Fish were a fan favorite!

In conducting this survey, I also got a decisive answer to the candy corn debate. Most people were either neutral or like candy corn. However, only 11.2% of participants said that they love candy corn, while 18.4% of respondents think candy corn is disgusting.

I also wanted to know what the weirdest things students and faculty at HB received when they trick-or-treated when they were little. Some of the weirdest responses I received were: a protractor, a nail file (given to a four-year-old!), a used sock with pennies inside (disguised as a “maraca”), and a used earring! It was pretty interesting to read through all the responses and learn of the many weird things people have given out to trick-or-treaters! In my opinion, the award for the weirdest replacement for candy goes to the used earring. Who wants a used earring instead of candy?!

In sum, my poll provides the answer to The Great Debate: HB’s favorite Halloween candy is Twix!
