On February 24, 2022, Russia invaded Ukraine. The news was broadcasted worldwide, and everyone was taking a side. Since then, the attention to this news has died down a lot. So what has been happening these past few months? Well first, there are four regions of Ukraine that have been almost completely occupied by Russia, Kherson, Zaporizhzhia, Donetsk, and Luhansk. There are going to be referendums in these areas. These referendums are votes that will decide whether Russia will annex these regions or not. On the other hand, recent reports appear to put Ukraine in a stronger position, having recaptured 2,317 square miles of land in the east. However, despite this news, the Ukrainian people are still struggling. Military forces have been establishing bases and operating weapons systems in populated residential areas. This puts Ukrainian citizens in danger because they are even doing this in schools and hospitals. Also, dozens of citizens have been abducted, and as of September 2022, 5,916 Ukrainians have been killed. Although this news is not as prominent on social media anymore, Ukrainians are still struggling, and need all the help they can get, and there are many ways to help them. First, it is very important to see where candidates stand on this issue and to vote accordingly. Also, there are many different ways to donate, including to causes that help Ukraine rebuild, and that help them get the resources they need for the winter. Lastly, there are many Ukrainian immigrants in America who could use some help, whether that means volunteering or even inviting them into your home.

Here are some sources to learn more about what is currently happening and more ways to help:
