The end of the school year is coming up so it’s time to reflect on the past. This is a list of the some of the most important events during September 2021:
- September 2: the author of What We Carry, Maya Lang, visited Hathaway Brown
- September 9: President Joe Biden announced the mandate of the COVID-19 vaccine for federal workers, contractors, and large employers, affecting 100 million people
- September 14: US’ lowest recorded rate of poverty since the records began in 1967, because of the increase in government aid
- September 15: SpaceX launched its first all-civilian spaceflight for a three-day orbit from Cape Canaveral, Florida
- September 16: Britain’s Kew Gardens breaks the world record of the largest living plant collection on a single site, with a total of 16,900 plants
- September 17: Netflix’s Squid Game by Hwang Dong-Hyuk premiered
- September 19: Spanish island of La Palma’s volcano, Cumbre Vieja, erupts for the first time since 1971
- September 19: For the 73rd Emmy awards, “The Crown” wins Best Drama, “Ted Lasso” for Best Comedy, and “Mare of Easttown” for Best Limited Series
- September 26: In a referendum in Switzerland, same-sex marriage was voted to be legalized nationwide
