The 2021 Met Gala was one of the biggest events of 2021. After a worldwide lockdown, it was exciting to see one of the biggest celebrity events up and running again. With the 2021 chairs being Timothée Chalamet, Amanda Gorman, Billie Eilish and Naomi Osaka, the Met Gala was ensured to be amazing. This year, the theme was In America: A Lexicon of Fashion. Some celebs killed both their looks and the theme, while to others, it was a hit and a miss. Here are 5 celebs that did the Met Gala best.
Billie Eilish, a cohost of the met, stunned in her custom Oscar De La Renta gown. The gown was meant to resemble Old Hollywood icon, Marylin Monroe. While nailing the theme hitting the theme on the dot, Billie was also able to make a change in the fashion community. While working with Oscar De La Renta, she convinced the designer brand to completely stop using animal fur in their pieces. This look was unexpected, iconic, and jaw dropping on so many levels.
Next up is Yara Shahidi in Christian Dior. Yara wore a beaded, strapless silver dress finished with a beautiful headpiece and beige cape. This look was inspired by Josephine Baker, an American entertainer as well as an influential civil rights activist. This look is stunning as well as perfect for the theme. It was beautifully thought out and Yara looked incredible.
Next up is the beautiful Lili Reinhart. Designed by American designer Christian Siriano, the dress fit the theme by featuring all 50 states’ state flowers. Lili’s dress was unique and very well thought out. This floral dress stunned the carpet, and fit the American theme well.
Next we have Lil Nas X. Lil Nas X served up three regal outfits for this year’s Met, all three designed by Donatella Versace. He started with a large yellow cape, then a gold armored suit, and lastly, a beaded jumpsuit. The looks were cohesive, confident, and very fitting for this year’s met.
Last up we have Amanda C Gorman. This influential activist-poet wore a custom Vera Wang piece influenced by the Statue of Liberty. Amanda was a co-host of the Met this year and her look definitely delivered. She carried a book shaped clutch with her which is the same book held by the Statue of Liberty. This look was iconic and will continue to be iconic.
