by Frances Berglund and Meredith Hays
We decided to order in from B Spot tonight with Frances’ brother, mom, and dad. B Spot is celebrity chef Michael Symon’s industrial-chic chain which serves gourmet burgers and milkshakes. Its rating is 4.2 out of 5 stars on Google. It is a family restaurant where you can dine in, do a curbside pickup, or have it delivered to your house. We wanted to get food delivered tonight to be more COVID-friendly.
Here our each of our ratings of the food we ordered:
Our rating scale: 1 = poor, 2 = not great, 3 = average, 4 = good, 5 = excellent
Frances: chicken fingers, fries, and root beer float
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Chicken Fingers: The chicken fingers were very good. They were cooked really well and tasted like a classic chicken finger.
Lola Fries (thin cut fries with rosemary): They were not super warm by the time we got them, and they were a little soggy. But I really enjoyed the rosemary flavoring on the fries and thought that it made them even more delicious.
Vanilla Custard Root Beer Float: I thought that it was one of the best root beer floats I’ve ever had. The ice cream really mixed well with the root beer, creating an amazing drink to enjoy throughout my meal.
Overall experience: I actually really enjoyed the food and thought that tonight’s dinner was good.
Meredith: cheeseburger, fries, and milkshake
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Cheeseburger with lettuce and onion without tomato: The cheeseburger was really good and was cooked well (I got it cooked medium).
Lola Fries (thin cut fries with rosemary): The fries were okay. They were pretty soggy.
Vanilla Bean Custard: It was a good milkshake. Nothing more, nothing less.
Overall Experience: I really enjoyed my meal.
Kia (Frances’ Mom): salad and fries
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Overall Experience: B Spot was not at its best tonight
Big Blue Salad with grilled chicken (romaine, radicchio, blue cheese crumbles, tomato, bacon, red onion, avocado, and blue cheese dressing): It lacked dressing and the chicken was dry. On the plus side, the veggies were fresh.
Lola Fries (thin cut fries with rosemary): The fries were soggy and not very good.
Ryan (Frances’ Dad): salad, hamburger, and wings
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Overall Experience: The food was good but the delivery was sluggish, leaving the food a bit cold. They forgot to include the dressing with the salad.
Big Blue Salad with extra bacon (romaine, radicchio, blue cheese crumbles, tomato, bacon, red onion, avocado, and blue cheese dressing): The salad was good, but they did not include the salad dressing.
Hamburger Patty: Well cooked and delicious.
Sriracha Mild Wings: Good spice. No dipping sauce or blue cheese dressing included.
Overall, the food was not high quality. It was not super cheap, but it was not really expensive either. Our average rating was 3.72 out of 5—it was a mediocre meal. The COVID aspect was good: eating at home made us more comfortable, and we didn’t have to come in contact with the delivery person either. The delivery made some of the foods not as good as they could have been, so we would recommend B spot if you are dining in.
I haven’t been to B Spot in a long time, but I always get the burger and fries when I do. I would agree that the fries can be a little soggy. It was really interesting to read about what you guys thought of the food, especially during the pandemic when eating out is a rare experience.
