The Middle East often gets a bad reputation when it comes to travel. People characterize it as being unsafe and think it’s all just miserable desert. While there is some merit to these statements, Jordan is in fact an excellent travel destination. There is a lot of conflict in the area, but Jordan is a relatively peaceful and friendly area. Here are the top three things to do in Jordan.

  1. Petra

This city is otherworldly. The ancient Nabataeans carved buildings into the sandstone cliffs to create intricate architectural designs. Spend at least 2 days exploring this World Heritage Site.

2. Shaumari Wildlife Reserve

To get a feel for the unique wildlife of the Middle East, you should visit this reserve. Here, you can see Arabian oryx, Persian onagers (wild donkeys), Dorcas gazelles and houbara bustards. This will certainly be one of the most interesting experiences of your trip.

3. The Amman Beach

No trip to Jordan is complete without a trip to the capital city, Amman, and while you’re there, you should go to the beach. Situated on the Dead Sea, the high salt content in the water makes for a unique and irreplicable swimming experience.

Overall, while many shy away from visiting the Middle East, Jordan is truly a magnificent vacation destination. When planning your next trip, be sure to consider this special and beautiful country!
