Let’s just say 2018 was a big year for movies. From the continuation of beloved series to new hits, the movie theaters were packed. So, at the end of 2018, it’s only right to share my top 5 (listed in no particular order)

1.     Infinity War

Any super fan of Marvel should agree with me on this statement: Infinity War totally shook my world. I walked out of the movie theater crying, angry, confused, and wanting to know more. It was funny, intense, and most importantly it showed the continuation of the Avengers series. I am itching to know what happens next (but also terrified) and hopefully Avengers: Endgame will give us the good ending we all deserve.

2.     To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before

This Netflix original movie not only brought Noah Centineo into many hearts, but also was the cutesy and just a little cheesy movie that made it the perfect easy watch. The heartwarming romance always left me smiling at the end, and made me want to watch it repeatedly (which I did…multiple times). The structure of the movie is a familiar one: the girl who has a crush on a guy, there’s some fake dating involved, thrown in a love triangle, and then a happy ending, but for some reason it felt different. Personally, I think it was the execution of the cute high school fake couple of Lara Jean and Peter. Their back and forth antics were funny and enjoyable to watch, and I’m sure it will make your heart swell just as it did to mine!

3.     Incredibles 2

The sequel we have all been waiting for did not disappoint, in my opinion. I loved revisiting the characters of Mr. Incredible, Elastigirl, Violet, Dash, and Jack Jack later in their lives, and the plot was both interesting and funny. The movie followed the adventures of Elastigirl this time, leaving Mr. Incredible at home taking care of the kids. Naturally, chaos ensues, and the family finds themselves teaming up with Frozone, my personal favorite character almost purely for his “Where is my super suit?” line, and try and take down a new set of villains. This movie was overall just super sweet, and a great continuation to the Incredibles series.

4.     Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom

Another continuation to a long running series, I will admit that I was not too excited to see the newest Jurassic movie. Personally, I felt that the series had just run on for too many years, and that they basically all had the same plot (which they kind of did…), but the jump scares and special effects made this movie stand out among the others. As someone who loves making videos and photography, I can always appreciate some good cinematography and special effects, and the ones featured in Jurassic World blew my mind. For that reason, I really enjoyed the movie!

5. Love Simon

Among the top 25 most grossing teen romances of all time, Love Simon took the box office by storm in early 2018. Naturally, as a movie and rom-com lover, I quickly went to see it with some friends, and it might have been one of the best decisions I made last year. The heartwarming story of Simon coming out and finding his true love made me cry happy tears, sad tears, angry tears, and just plain out sob for a while.  Now just like any other teen movie there were some horrible second-hand embarrassment parts (the waffle house scene gets me every time!), but the ending made up for it. If you’ve seen the movie, you know exactly what I’m talking about. The actors were incredible, the music in the soundtrack was spot on, the details in the sets and scenes were amazing, and the story was filled with the perfect number of ups and downs. Overall, this might have been the best movie I’ve seen this year, and it definitely earned its spot on my “all-time favorites” list!

As a movie lover, I can’t wait to see what this year has to offer. What were your top movies from this past year? Did they make it on the list? Comment below!
