  1. Black Panther

A movie with a almost full cast of color, director of color, and a African storyline. Also, the first african american as a superhero. This movie was a breakthrough in representation for People of Color.  Not only is it an incredible movie in its own right, it’s also an awesome addition to the Marvel Universe and has one of the best soundtracks of this decade thanks to Kendrick Lamar

Women and men of color made up the incredibly talented and powerful cast, including, Chadwick Boseman (Black Panther), Lupita Nyong’o (Nakia), Michael B. Jordan (Erik Killmonger). The Black Panther is continuing to add to its growing number of awards, including, from the BET Awards: Best movie and best actor, the Teen Choice Awards: Choice Movie: Si-Fi, Choice Movie Actress: Si-Fi, and Choice Movie: Villain, the SAG Awards: Outstanding Performance by a Cast in a Motion Picture and Outstanding Action Performance by a Stunt Ensemble in a Motion Picture, and the MTV: Best Villain, Best Hero, Movie of the Year, and Best Actor in a Movie. 2. Crazy Rich Asians

Crazy Rich Asians is the first movie in 25 years telling a story about Asian-Americans with an all-Asian ensemble on such a big screen. I saw this movie, and I would 100% recommend it. Crazy Rich Asians is a very funny and heartwarming story that will make you laugh and cry. It shows a couple’s journey through meeting the family and not backing down to the judgement that comes with it. The cast of main characters features actors and actresses of Asian ethnicity who are witty, charming, and funny, some include: Henry Golding (Nick Young), Constance Wu (Rachel Chu), Awkwafina (Peik Lin), Gemma Chan (Astrid Leong-Teo), and Michelle Yeoh (Eleanor Sung-Young). An award that truly describes the movie. The movie has earned over two hundred million dollars and will hopefully continue earning more.

3. A Star is Born

A Star is Born is Lady Gaga’s first time ever acting in a movie or TV show. While some people may not be overly interested in this fact, this shows how much she was able to overcome to be given an opportunity like this. I saw the movie and really enjoyed it. Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper’s acting is amazing and the chemistry between them makes the movie even more interesting — not to mention, the incredible songs that accompanied the acting. The cast is made up of very talented actresses and actors, as well as, musicians and singers: Bradley Cooper (Jackson Maine), Lady Gaga (Ally), Sam Elliott (Bobby), and Dave Chappelle (Noodles). Since the movie is still newly out, it is just beginning to win awards for its brilliance. Some including, the Critics’ Choice Awards for Best Actress and the Golden Globes for Best Original Song. Mary Poppins Returns  is another installment of the classic Mary Poppins. 7. Ocean’s 8

This movie is significant because, in the past, the Ocean movies consisted of eight men. This movie is perfectly in time with the Time’s Up and #MeToo movements because it truly shows powerful women who do not need men. I watched this movie when it first came out, and I thought the acting and story was amazing. I was caught in the story from the first minute and did not want the movie to end. Some of my family members and friends also saw the movie and had the same feelings. The movie brings together an amazing group of actresses and shows important, independent women owning their place in society. The powerful actresses include: Sandra Bullock (Debbie Ocean), Cate Blanchett (Lou), Anne Hathaway (Daphne Kluger), Rihanna (Nine Ball), Sarah Paulson (Tammy), and Mindy Kaling (Amita).
