The 2018 Oscar Predictions

The Academy Awards are always a pivoting night in the entertainment industry. It’s a chance for people in the film industry to receive some of the greatest achievements in their entire careers. It’s a chance for some singers to experience preforming up on the stage of the Dolby Theatre, and it also is a chance to see who can handle the fashion elegantly, and who can’t. Some people might already know that the Oscars are being held this Sunday, with host Jimmy Kimmel, and some people already have their predictions. I recently sent out a poll to some friends to see what their Oscar predictions were and here are the results….

Predictions for Best Actor:

In this category, 39% of people said that Daniel Kaluuya would win this award for the movie Get Out. 29% of people voted for Timothée Chalamet to win for his performance in Call Me By Your Name. Gary Oldman received 19% of the vote for Darkest Hour (although film critics say he is most likely to win the award this year). 10% of people thought that Denzel Washington would win for Roman J. Israel Esq., and lastly, only 3% of people had hope for Daniel Day-Lewis winning for Phantom Thread.

Predictions for Best Actress:

In this category, Margot Robbie and Meryl Streep both came to a tie of a first place result of 29% each for their performances in I, Tonya and The Post. Frances McDormand and Sally Hawkins also came in a tie of 16% of the votes each for their roles in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri and The Shape of Water. Saoirse Ronan came in last place with a result of 10% of the vote for her role in Lady Bird.

Predictions for Best Supporting Actor:

In this category, 39% predicted that Richard Jenkins would win for The Shape of Water. Sam Rockwell and Woody Harrelson both came in second place with 23% of the vote each for their performances in Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri. Christopher Plummer who is famous for playing Captain von Trapp in the Sound of Music received 13% for his role in All the Money in the World. Lastly, 3% predicted that Willem Dafoe would receive the award for The Florida Project.

Predictions for Best Supporting Actress:

In this category, 42% of the vote went towards Octavia Spencer for her role in The Shape of Water. 29% of the vote went to Allison Janney for the movie I, Tonya. 23% of people predicted for Laurie Metcalf to win for Lady Bird. Mary J. Blige received 7% of the vote for her work in Mudbound, and Lesley Manville received 0% of the vote for her role in Phantom Thread.

Predictions for Best Picture:

In this category, Dunkirk lead the poll with 26% of the vote. Get Out, The Shape of Water, and Call Me By Your Name came in second place, each with 16% of the votes. Lady Bird received 10% of the votes. The Post and Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri tied with 7% of the votes each. Phantom Thread had a prediction rate of 3%, and Darkest Hour received 0% of the vote.

Predictions for Best Director:

In this category, Christopher Nolan leads the predictions with 39% of the vote for Dunkirk. Guillermo del Toro trails behind with 23% of the vote for The Shape of Water. Greta Gerwig received 19% of the vote for Lady Bird. Jordan Peele was not far behind with 16% of the vote for Get Out, and 3% of people predicted that Paul Thomas Anderson would win for Phantom Thread.

Predictions for Best Original Song:

For this category, “This is Me” from the movie The Greatest Showman lead the predictions with 74% of the vote. “Mystery of Love” from Call Me By Your Name came in with 19% of the votes. “Remember Me” from the animated film Coco received 7% of the vote. While “Mighty River” from Mudbound and “Stand Up For Something” from Marshall came in with 0% of the vote.
