Volunteering with Youth Challenge
By: Emma Esteves
One incredible thing about HB is that it provides girls with amazing opportunities. This past month, the Youth Challenge organization came in to train a group of enthusiastic individuals who wanted to become volunteers. It is a great way to meet new people and make friendships that will last a lifetime.
Youth Challenge is an organization that brings young people with physical disabilities and teen volunteers together who can inspire others through adapted sports and recreation. Volunteers can choose from multiple program opportunities and attend as many or as few as their schedule allows. Each person is paired individually with a participant who has a physical disability. All the activities are adapted in some way to make it more enjoyable and interactive for those with disabilities. Activities include a variety of sports and camps during the year. The programs are always exciting, and there is never a dull moment throughout the session!
Youth Challenge is a great way to get involved in the community, meet new people, and have fun all at the same time. In order to become a volunteer, a training session is required. After that, you are officially a volunteer and can start helping out whenever. There are so many positive benefits from this experience, and it is something you might just want to take advantage of. Youth Challenge is always looking for additional volunteers who demonstrate courage by being able to interact with individuals who may be just a little different from us. However, this organization allows peers to interact with one another and develop friendships.
