The Dogs of HB: First Edition
By Hannah Schmidt
Welcome to the first edition of The Dogs of HB, a new column where you get to know the faculty and students’ fluffy friends! Here are 5 adorable HB pups to brighten your day!
Esme (10 years old): Great Dane
Favorite food: Peanut butter, bacon, and ice cream
Favorite memory: We got my dog when she was 5 from the APL. At first she was very skittish and wouldn’t eat at all. Once, when my parents were working in our front yard, they tied Esme to the lawn mower so she wouldn’t run away. She started moving and the lawn mowermade a loud sound as it skidded across the brick pathway. Esme freaked out! She wriggled out of her collar and took off down our street. My dad started running after her, but she was going to fast. When he came back around to our house, she was standing in the driveway, waiting for us to come back to let her in.
Grace (11th grade):
Ginger (5 years old): Yorkie
Favorite food: Almost anything
Favorite memory: When I took a nap and she curled up next to me
Soren (1 year old): Alaskan Malamute
Favorite food: Watermelon
Favorite memory: Last Fall, during a night run, Soren and I were stalked by a small coyote pack; we (unknowingly) ran through a denning area. The Coyotes followed us for ~2 miles, distinguishable only by their glimmering eyes. When they advanced within ten feet, however, Soren demanded we stand our ground. Though I tried, I could not pull this 100+ pound, protective animal away from a fight. As three coyotes inched closer, Soren fearlessly lashed-out, and the smaller jackals scattered. Soren turned to me and sat down, requesting his hard-earned treat for the evening.
Moxie (4 years old): cat
Favorite food: Treats
Favorite memory: Discovering my dog is a cat.
Megan (11th grade):
Rosie/@rosiethecavalier (3 years old): Cocker Spaniel/Cavalier King Charles Mix
Favorite food: Chicken Stir Fry
Favorite memory: Walking her in the snow with her matching pink boots and coat
