Before I discuss the predictions for the upcoming awards shows, I will recap the Golden Globes. This year La La Land dominated the Golden Globes with both Ryan Gosling and Emma Stone receiving best performance by an actor/actress in a motion picture and the movie itself won best motion picture musical or drama. In addition, director Damien Chazelle won both best director and best screenplay. On the TV side of the awards, Night Manager, Crown, The People v. O. J. Simpson: American Crime Story and Blackish won awards in their respective categories. Lastly, the amazing Meryl Streep won the Cecil B. DeMille Award (a lifetime achievement award).

As for predictions, the front runners for best picture are Arrival, Fences, Hell or High Water, La La Land, Manchester by the Sea and Moonlight. All of these movies have numerous nominations across the board and have been repeatedly praised by critics. But don’t count out the Marvel movie Deadpool, war movie Hackshaw Ridge, and sleeper holiday hit Hidden Figures. In addition, be sure to keep Lion, Loving, and Nocturnal Animals on your radar. These 6 movies may not have received as much attention, but have a decent chance of winning awards. In tv, new show Altanta is expected to get a couple awards. Veep, Transparent, and Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt are expected to do as well as they did last year. Established shows such as Silicon Valley and Blackish will hopefully get bring home awards too.
